How Has God Guided You Through a Dark Season?

Wisdom Wednesday:

How Has God Guided You Through a Dark Season?

Life has a way of leading us through valleys—seasons of uncertainty, grief, fear, or struggle. In these moments, it can feel as though darkness surrounds us, and we long for direction, hope, and peace. But as children of God, we are never left to wander alone. His Word promises that He is with us, guiding us even in the moments when we cannot yet see the light.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

God’s Guidance in the Darkness

When we walk through difficult seasons, it’s easy to wonder: Where is God? But scripture reassures us that He is always near, even when we don’t feel His presence. He guides us in ways we may not immediately recognize—through His Word, through the wisdom of others, and through the still, small voice of His Spirit.

  1. Through His Word – God’s truth is our anchor. When fear whispers lies, His promises remind us that He is faithful. “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” — Psalm 23:4
  2. Through Prayer – Sometimes, God’s guidance is revealed when we take our burdens to Him in prayer. Even when we don’t have the words, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us. “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
  3. Through Wise Counsel – God places people in our lives who can offer wisdom, encouragement, and a reminder of His truth. A trusted friend, mentor, or pastor can be an instrument of His guidance.
  4. Through His Peace – When decisions seem overwhelming, God often leads through peace. If we feel restless or anxious, He may be prompting us to wait or seek Him deeper. “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” — Colossians 3:15

Holding on to Hope in the Darkness

If you are in a dark season, know this: God has not abandoned you. He is leading you, even now. Light may not break through all at once, but step by step, He will show the way.

“Weeping may last for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” — Psalm 30:5

God is using this season to grow your faith, refine your character, and draw you closer to Him. Trust that He is working all things together for good (Romans 8:28).
