🎼 Scripture of the Day
“My eyes will watch over them for their good… I will build them up and not tear them down.” – Jeremiah 24:6
In Jeremiah 22–24, the prophet delivers stern messages to Judah’s leaders and people. The kings are warned to execute justice and care for the oppressed, but they reject God’s commands, leading to destruction. Jeremiah contrasts false prophets, who soothe with lies, with God’s true word, which refines and convicts. Yet, hope remains: God promises restoration for His people, symbolized by the vision of the good and bad figs. These chapters remind us that leadership, truth, and obedience to God matter deeply, and that even in judgment, God’s redemptive plan is unfolding.
📚 Overview of Jeremiah 22–24
- 🔹 Jeremiah 22 – Judgment on Wicked Kings
- God commands Judah’s kings to act with justice, care for the vulnerable, and reject oppression. Because they refuse, judgment comes, particularly against Shallum, Jehoiakim, and Coniah.
- 🔹 Jeremiah 23 – True and False Prophets
- Jeremiah condemns false shepherds and prophets who mislead God’s people. In contrast, God promises the coming of the Righteous Branch, a king from David’s line who will rule with justice.
- 🔹 Jeremiah 24 – The Vision of the Figs
- God shows Jeremiah a vision of good and bad figs. The good figs represent exiles who will return and know Him, while the bad figs represent those left in the land who face destruction.
📢 God’s Justice and Hopeful Future
Jeremiah 22–24 reminds us that God calls leaders and people alike to live justly and truthfully. While judgment comes for disobedience, God’s promise of restoration never fails. The good figs remind us that even in exile, God watches over His people and prepares a future of hope fulfilled in Christ.
