April 1st—April Fool’s Day—is a time for lighthearted pranks and playful tricks. But as I sat down to think about this day, I realized something profound: the world considers the message of Christ to be “foolishness.” Yet, it is the most life-changing truth there is.
The Foolishness of the Cross
The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 1:18,
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
Think about it: Jesus willingly left heaven’s glory, took on human flesh, and allowed Himself to be mocked, beaten, and crucified. The King of Kings was treated as a criminal. The Creator of the universe let His own creation nail Him to a cross. To the world, this seemed like weakness—foolishness even. But in reality, it was the greatest act of love and power.
A Divine “April Fool’s” Moment?
Imagine how Satan must have laughed when Jesus was crucified. He must have thought he had won. But then came the ultimate plot twist—on the third day, Jesus rose from the dead! What seemed like the greatest defeat turned into the greatest victory.
Satan, the world, and even some of Jesus’ followers thought the cross was the end. But God had the last laugh! As it says in Psalm 2:4, “The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.”
A Foolish Trade—But the Best One You’ll Ever Make
April Fool’s Day is all about tricking others, but here’s a trade that isn’t a trick—it’s the best deal in history:
- We give Jesus our sin, and He gives us His righteousness.
- We bring Him our weakness, and He gives us His strength.
- We surrender our fears, and He fills us with courage.
- We lay down our brokenness, and He makes us whole.
Sounds like a “foolish” exchange, right? Yet this is the heart of the Gospel. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:25,
“For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.”
The Best “Fool” to Be
So on this April Fool’s Day, let’s choose to be “fools” for Christ. Let’s live boldly for Him, love others recklessly, and trust Him even when the world calls us foolish. Because in the end, the only true foolishness is rejecting the greatest gift ever given—Jesus.
Let’s embrace the wisdom of God, even if the world calls it foolishness. Because one day, we’ll see the full picture, and we’ll know—it was the smartest decision we ever made.
