Reflection

Fasting has always been a spiritual practice for tuning the heart toward God. By setting aside food—or another source of comfort or distraction—we quiet our cravings and allow the Holy Spirit to sharpen our awareness.

When we fast, the hunger we feel reminds us that our deepest need is not bread or pleasure, but the presence of God Himself. This practice doesn’t earn His favor; rather, it clears space in our hearts to notice when He is moving and speaking.

Sensitivity to the Spirit is often dulled by busyness, routine, and self-reliance. But through fasting, we learn to depend more fully on God. We become watchful, alert, and responsive—ready to follow wherever He leads.

Daily Practice

Choose a way to fast today. It might be a meal, a type of food, social media, or another distraction. Each time you feel the pull of what you set aside, pause and pray: “Holy Spirit, make me sensitive to Your presence.”

✍️ Journal Prompt

When have you most recently sensed the Holy Spirit moving in your life? What practices or moments helped you notice His presence more clearly?

Prayer

Holy Spirit,
I want to walk in step with You. As I set something aside today, increase my awareness of Your presence. Quiet the noise of my cravings and distractions so that I can hear Your whisper and see Your hand at work. Teach me to be sensitive and responsive to Your leading.
Amen.
