Have you ever whispered, “God, I just want more of You,” but felt unsure what that even means… or how to get there?
Maybe you’ve said it in a moment of worship, tears streaming down your face. Or maybe you’ve muttered it in exhaustion, somewhere between laundry piles and unanswered prayers. I’ve been there. More than once.
I’ll be honest—“more of God” used to sound like something ultra-spiritual people said. Like the kind of phrase you’d put on a coffee mug or hear someone say during a mountaintop retreat. But down here in the real world, where there’s conflict, disappointment, and dinner to make, it felt vague.
Still, the ache was real.
I wanted more. More peace. More guidance. More connection.
Not more religion, not more pressure—but more of Him. His voice. His comfort. His nearness.
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.”
— Psalm 42:1
So what does “more of God” actually look like? And why does it often feel like He’s hiding when we’re most desperate to find Him?
It starts with honesty
I used to think I had to clean myself up before asking God for more of Him. I’d say things like, “Once I fix this attitude,” or “Once I get more consistent with my Bible reading,” then I’ll be in a better place to go deeper.
But the truth is—God doesn’t wait for us to get it all together. He draws near when we’re honest.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18
“Pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.”
— Psalm 62:8
That means we can come to Him with the mess. With the numbness. With the questions. Even with the anger.
Want more of God? Start by telling Him exactly where you are.
“More” doesn’t always feel magical
Sometimes, I expected that seeking more of God would feel like a spiritual fireworks show—emotions, goosebumps, divine revelations. And yes, there have been moments where His presence swept in like a flood.
But more often, it’s quiet.
It’s found in stillness. In obedience. In the quiet yes.
It’s when I choose to forgive… again.
When I turn off the noise and sit with the Word even when I don’t “feel” anything.
When I lay down my right to be understood and ask God to soften my heart.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10
“If you love me, keep my commands.”
— John 14:15
More of God often comes when I make room for Him in the ordinary, not just the extraordinary.
Hunger is a gift
If you’re feeling the ache for more of Him, that’s not a sign something’s wrong. It’s a sign He’s drawing you.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
— Matthew 5:6
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
— James 4:8
That ache? That longing? That restlessness? It’s not a burden. It’s a holy invitation.
Let it lead you to ask bigger questions. To pray bolder prayers. To wait longer in His presence.
A prayer for the woman who wants more
If you’re like me—walking through the in-between, longing for God but unsure what to do next—this is for you:
“Lord, I want more of You. Not more pressure. Not more rules. Just more of You. More of Your voice in the chaos. More of Your peace in the storms. More of Your love in the places I’ve closed off. I’m tired of doing life half-full. I give You my heart—no filters. No masks. Just me. Come meet me here.”
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
— Jeremiah 29:13
You’re not alone
If you’re hungry for more of God, I want you to know you’re not the only one. It’s okay if the journey feels slow. It’s okay if your prayers are messy. The desire itself is precious to God.
Don’t stop seeking. He promises you will find Him.
“My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.”
— Psalm 63:8
So here’s my challenge to you today:
Make room.
Even just a few minutes.
Not to get something from God—but to be with Him.
Ask Him to fill you again. And again. And again.
You don’t have to live running on empty.
There is more.
And He’s not holding back.
