Wisdom Wednesday:
Love isn’t just something we feel—it’s something we do. It’s an action, a choice, and a reflection of God’s heart. The world teaches us that love is about feelings, attraction, or personal fulfillment, but Jesus showed us something radically different. His love was sacrificial, patient, compassionate, and intentional—and He calls us to follow His example.
One of the most powerful scriptures that captures Jesus’ love is John 15:12—“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
But how did Jesus love? Let’s look at how He demonstrated love in His relationships:
1. Jesus Loved Through Sacrifice
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13
Jesus showed us that love is about giving, not just receiving. He ultimately sacrificed His life for us, but even before that, He lived sacrificially—giving His time, energy, and compassion to people who often rejected Him.
Reflection: Are we willing to love others sacrificially? Maybe that means giving up our comfort to serve someone else, putting aside our pride to forgive, or making time for someone in need.
2. Jesus Loved Through Forgiveness
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” – Luke 23:34
Jesus loved even those who betrayed, denied, and abandoned Him. Peter denied Him, Judas betrayed Him, and the crowds who once praised Him turned against Him—yet Jesus still chose to love and forgive.
Reflection: Is there someone in your life you need to forgive? Love isn’t always easy, but Jesus calls us to forgive as He forgave us (Colossians 3:13).
3. Jesus Loved Through Compassion
“When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” – Matthew 9:36
Jesus was always moved by compassion. He saw people’s struggles, pain, and brokenness, and He responded with love. Whether He was healing the sick, feeding the hungry, or comforting the outcast, His love was active.
Reflection: How can we show compassion in our daily lives? Maybe it’s checking in on a friend, helping a neighbor, or simply offering a kind word.
Living Out Jesus’ Love
Love isn’t just a concept; it’s a calling. Jesus didn’t just tell us to love—He showed us how. And He didn’t just love when it was easy—He loved unconditionally.
