We’ve all been there. Lying awake at night, staring at the ceiling, running through all the “what-ifs” in our minds. What if I can’t fix this? What if things don’t turn out the way I hope? What if I’m not enough? Worry has a way of sneaking into our hearts and making itself at home, doesn’t it?
But here’s the thing: worry never helps. It doesn’t solve the problem or bring peace. In fact, it often robs us of peace, leaving us feeling more anxious, restless, and overwhelmed. So, how do we fight back? How do we keep worry from taking over?
The answer might surprise you: I choose worship. If we want to know what to do instead of worrying and how to overcome worry biblically, the answer is: WE choose worship over worry!

Worship Changes Everything
When we shift our focus from our problems to God’s presence, something amazing happens. Worship reminds us who God is—our Provider, Protector, and Peace. It takes the spotlight off our worries and puts it on the One who holds the world in His hands.
Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Notice that “thanksgiving” part? Worship isn’t just about singing songs at church—it’s about choosing gratitude and trust in God, even when life feels uncertain.
Worship in Everyday Life
So how do we actually “choose worship over worry” when life feels heavy? Let’s break it down into simple steps:
- Pause and Pray
When worry starts to creep in, take a moment to stop and pray; offer an “after worship prayer.” It doesn’t have to be fancy or formal—just an honest conversation with God. Tell Him what’s on your heart and ask Him to take control.“Lord, I’m struggling with this right now. I feel overwhelmed, and I need Your peace. Please remind me that You are bigger than this situation.” - Turn on Worship Music
Music has a way of calming the soul and shifting our perspective. Find a song that speaks to your heart and let the lyrics wash over you. Need help choosing worship songs? Some of my favorites include “Goodness of God” by Bethel Music and “It Is Well” by Kristene DiMarco. After that you can try some of the ones that will show up in your recommended feed. - List What You’re Grateful For
Gratitude is a powerful weapon against worry. Grab a notebook or the notes app on your phone and write down three things you’re thankful for. They don’t have to be big—sometimes it’s as simple as a hot cup of coffee or a kind word from a friend. - Speak God’s Promises Out Loud
There’s power in speaking truth over your life. Find a verse that brings you comfort and say it out loud. For example, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). - Take a Step of Faith
Worship isn’t just about what we say—it’s about what we do. Trusting God often means taking action, even when we’re scared. Whether it’s making that hard phone call, forgiving someone, or simply showing up, every step of faith is an act of worship, and in this way we are choosing faith over worry.
Worry Less Pray More Bible Verses
The Bible is filled with verses that encourage us to replace our worries with prayer. One of the most well-known passages is Philippians 4:6-7, which says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This verse reminds us that prayer is the antidote to anxiety and that God’s peace is available to us when we turn to Him.
Another powerful verse is 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” This reminds us that God doesn’t want us to carry our burdens alone. Instead, He invites us to give them to Him, knowing that He cares deeply for us.
Matthew 6:34 also offers reassurance: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” This verse encourages us to focus on the present and trust God for the future, letting go of the things we can’t control.
By meditating on these verses, we can find strength and encouragement to replace our worries with prayer and worship, trusting in God’s faithfulness.
A Personal Story
I remember a time when I was overwhelmed with worry about a situation I couldn’t control. My thoughts were spinning, and I felt like I was drowning in “what-ifs.” But then I remembered this simple truth: God’s got this.
So, I turned on some worship music, opened my Bible, and started praying. Slowly but surely, my heart began to settle. The situation didn’t magically fix itself overnight, but my perspective shifted. I wasn’t carrying the weight alone anymore.
And that’s the beauty of worship—it doesn’t necessarily change our circumstances, but it changes us.
Closing Encouragement
Sister, whatever you’re facing today, know this: you don’t have to carry it alone. God sees you, He loves you, and He’s already working on your behalf. Instead of letting worry consume you, choose to worship the One who is worthy of your trust.
Because when we choose worship over worry, we find peace that doesn’t make sense, joy that defies circumstances, and a renewed sense of hope.
Let’s lift our eyes, open our hearts, and worship the One who never fails.
