Hearing the Voice of God

Welcoming The Holy Spirit Series

September 2 – Today, pray specifically for ears to hear God when He speaks.

💖 Scripture for the Day

Reflection

God is not silent. From the beginning, He has spoken—through creation, through His Word, through prophets, and most fully through Jesus Christ. Today, He continues to speak to His children through the Holy Spirit.

But hearing God requires a listening heart. The noise of the world, the pull of distractions, and even our own inner thoughts can drown out His gentle whisper. Like sheep attuned to their shepherd, we grow to recognize His voice by spending time with Him, soaking in Scripture, and learning to discern His nudges in our spirit.

As we pray for ears to hear, we are asking God to sharpen our spiritual sensitivity—so that we don’t just hear words, but recognize His voice guiding us in truth and love.

Daily Practice

Today, set aside a few quiet moments. Pray this simple prayer: “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:9). Then wait in stillness, without rushing. Journal anything that comes to mind—whether a verse, a thought, or a gentle impression. Test it by the Word of God and let it draw you closer to Him.

✍️ Journal Prompt

What distractions or “noise” most often keep you from hearing God’s voice? How can you quiet your heart this week to listen more closely?

Prayer

Lord,
You are my Shepherd, and I want to hear Your voice clearly. Quiet the noise around me and within me so I can listen. Teach me to discern Your Spirit’s leading from my own thoughts and the world’s distractions. Give me ears to hear, a heart to receive, and the courage to obey when You speak.
Amen.
