Reflection

A critical spirit often creeps in quietly. It whispers fault-finding words, fuels negativity, and robs us of joy. The Holy Spirit, however, calls us into freedom—freedom to see others through God’s eyes, to encourage instead of tear down, and to celebrate instead of complain.

Fasting today is not only about withholding food or comforts—it is about surrendering the habits of criticism and negativity that hinder the Spirit’s joy. As we fast, we ask God to cleanse our hearts, renew our minds, and replace critical thoughts with gratitude and celebration.

The Spirit does not condemn—He convicts, heals, and leads us into life. In Christ, we are free to speak words of life and to celebrate the goodness of God in others.

Daily Practice

Fast today from one meal or from a comfort you rely on. Each time you feel the urge for it, pray: “Lord, free me from a critical spirit and fill me with gratitude and joy.”

✍️ Journal Prompt

When are you most tempted to slip into criticism or negativity? What would it look like to respond with encouragement and celebration instead?

Prayer

Lord,
Search my heart and remove the critical spirit that hinders joy. Teach me to speak life, to encourage, and to celebrate Your goodness in others. As I fast, replace negativity with gratitude, and help me walk in the freedom of Your Spirit.
Amen.
