A Lesson in Waiting and Letting Go

There’s something about waiting that tests the soul like nothing else. We wait for healing. We wait for answers. We wait for doors to open, relationships to be restored, or clarity to come. And in our waiting, if we’re honest, we often feel uncertain, frustrated, or even forgotten.
But I’ve learned something through my own journey—God is never late. And His timing, though often different from ours, is always perfect.
A Personal Lesson: When God Said “Not Yet”
Several years ago, I was praying fervently about an opportunity I thought was the next step for my life. I was convinced it was right. I had the qualifications, the open door, and the enthusiasm. But every time I got close, something would fall through—an email left unanswered, a change in plans, or unexpected delays. I was discouraged and confused.
I remember one night pouring my heart out to God. “Why the delay, Lord? Why am I being held back?” I didn’t hear a booming voice in return, but I sensed a quiet, persistent whisper in my spirit: “Trust Me. Not yet.”
It wasn’t until a year later that I understood. The door I wanted so badly would have led me down a path that wasn’t prepared for me. Instead, God opened another door—one that aligned better with my calling, brought peace to my spirit, and bore lasting fruit. If I had forced my way into the earlier opportunity, I would’ve missed what God truly had for me.
Spiritual Renewal Happens in the Waiting
Waiting is not wasted time when we trust God’s process. It is in the stillness that He refines our character, shapes our desires, and deepens our dependence on Him. The world tells us to rush, hustle, and grab opportunities. But God calls us to rest in His sovereignty and walk by faith, not sight.
Isaiah 40:31 reminds us:
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
That promise isn’t just poetic—it’s real. God renews us in the waiting. He prepares us for what’s next, and often, for what’s better.
