When David, who had been anointed as the future king of Israel but was still on the run from King Saul, sent men to ask Nabal for food and supplies as a gesture of goodwill, Nabal rudely refused and insulted David. This act of disrespect enraged David, who set out with his men to take vengeance.
Recognizing the danger, Abigail didn’t hesitate. She gathered an abundance of food and supplies and set out to meet David before he could reach her home. Humbly falling before him, she pleaded for mercy, acknowledging David’s anointing and reminding him that shedding blood in anger would bring unnecessary guilt upon him.
